FAQ’s
What is a teen skills and support group?
A teen skills and support group combines practical skill-building with the benefits of connecting with peers. While teens learn strategies for executive functioning, they also have a supportive space to share experiences and to learn from one another. They also learn they are not alone which can help to reduce isolation and stress.
Is this group therapy or academic tutoring?
Level Up for High School is a therapeutic skills and support group, not a tutoring program. Although the group addresses skills that can improve school performance, it also focuses on confidence, emotional regulation, coping with stress, and connecting with peers.
What happens during a typical group meeting?
Meetings may include guided discussions, practical skill-building activities, opportunities for reflection, and strategies that teens can practice between sessions. The goal is to make each topic relevant, engaging, and useful in real-life high school situations.
What is the purpose of the initial interview?
Prior to beginning the group, we will arrange an initial interview with you and your teen to determine if the group will be a good fit for your teen. This interview will be brief (15-20 min) and can be conducted in person or virtually. It is common for teens to feel hesitant about joining a new group. The interview gives you and your teen an opportunity to meet the group leader and to ask questions, and learn more about what to expect.
Is attendance required for all 8 weeks?
Because each week focuses on a different skill and group connection develops over time, regular attendance is strongly encouraged. You should plan to attend the full eight-week program whenever possible.
